The concept of Armed Forces Academy (AFA) in the field of science and technology is conditioned by the nature of the departmental state university and is defined in the document “Long-term plan of AFA until the year 2015”. AFA focuses mainly on research and development aimed at supporting security and defense of the Slovak Republic and development of capabilities of Armed Forces of Slovak Republic within state security community. Therefore, it gives priority to research and development projects submitted by the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic, which finance them from the state budget. The school's goal is to make the quality of research and development and its connection with teaching a common standard. Under the guidance of experienced department teachers, students are involved in solving research projects.
The organizational, personnel and material provision of research and development is coordinated by the Vice-Rector for Science, who leads the Department of Science.
The Department of Science performs the following tasks in particular:
coordinates research and development activities in accordance with the Act on the Organization of State Support for Research and Development, as amended,
comprehensively processes data for the needs of research and development,
participates in the creation of main planning and analysis documents for the area of research and development activities,
maintains an overview of the management of R&D budget allocations,
provides support for the administration and monitoring of the use of funds for research and development projects,
coordinates publishing activities, prepares a plan of publishing activities and ensures the process of allocating ISBNs,
ensures the agenda of the editorial board and the publication of scientific and scientific-professional periodicals,
prepares background materials for the meeting of the Scientific Board, organizes meetings of the Scientific Board, including the activities of the Secretary of the Scientific Board,
prepares materials and organizes habilitation and inauguration proceedings according to the granted rights,
comprehensively manages the field of industrial property within the Armed Forces Academy,
coordinates student scientific and professional activities,
provides the agenda of participation fees (trainings, courses, seminars, conferences).
