On December 18^th, 2023, based on the recommendation of the Minister of Defense of Slovak republic, the new rector of Armed Forces Academy (AFA), COL GS Aurel Sabo was appointed by the President of Slovak republic, Zuzana Caputova, who also congratulated him on taking up this extremely responsible and demanding position.

"The Armed Forces Academy is an elite school which is of fundamental importance to our country as it plays a vital role in ensuring our defense and protection," the president said in her speech. "Two months ago, it commemorated half a century since its establishment. During this period, it has developed into a top higher education institution that educates future defenders of peace and our security. Therefore, it is extremely important that your students do not only acquire new knowledge, but also form their character, devotion to democratic values and healthy patriotism."

Lastly, the President wished to new rector a lot of success in his future work.

* COL GS Aurel Sabo has been working at AFA since 2019 in the position of vice-rector for education. He dedicated his professional career to communication and information systems, which he began studying at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Construction of the Military Academy in Brno, majoring in radio research, and from 1993 at the Military Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš, specializing in communication systems - special radio systems, which he successfully graduated in 1996. He completed his doctoral studies in theoretical electrical engineering by defending his dissertation in 2003. He increased his professional qualification on the ground of different foreign institutions.  Participating on an international mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina was also a valuable professional experience.
