The Slovak Republic, as the presiding country of the Visegrad Group, organised on February 1st - 2nd, 2023, under the patronage of the Slovak Verification Center of the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic, a meeting of representatives of the V4 member countries in the area of arms control and disarmament regime. The meeting took place in the Armed Forces Academy of Gen. M. R. Štefánik, which Zsolt Pastorek, PhD. as a professional advisor during negotiations, represented. The armament control and disarmament agenda are one of the main points during the presidency of the Slovak Republic in the V4 group. The result of the negotiations was an agreement on the following joint procedures of the V4 countries in organising the training of inspectors of international arms control groups for the years 2023-2024.
Armament and disarmament control is one of the main instruments for maintaining stability not only in the European region but also in the world. It is mainly a preventive measure to avoid armed conflicts. Therefore, in the background of the current armed conflict on the territory of Ukraine, the actions of the arms control and disarmament regime cannot be applied in full format. However, this does not mean the loss of the state's ability to apply such a control regime and to be able to reset it to a complete profile in the post-conflict region. The training of arms control inspectors is an integral part of maintaining the mentioned competence, and the above-standard cooperation of the V4 countries in the said area confirms the necessity of this regional group.
